Photocopy Collage Portraits

Photocopy collage is a technique of my own invention. Basically an image is photocopied onto multiple pieces of colored paper. Then the pieces are cut up and reassembled into a full-color collage! Copy machine toner, when adhered properly to paper, is extremely permanent and archival-quality. For these collages I use only acid-free archival-quality papers and backing. I also heat each piece of paper in an oven so that the toner is fully adhered to the paper. The end result is a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork that, with proper care, should last a lifetime.

Here is a rundown of what I offer in the way of custom photocopy collage portraits, and prices- just pick and choose what you'd like me to do for you:

1 photo session with the Holga camera, at which I would shoot a roll of
120mm B+W film: $200

Photocopy collage: $200. This can be done either from a photo from the above
shoot, or from a photo provided by you. Obviously, the latter option saves
you $200, but not all photos are suitable for this process, and I am an excellent photographer! All the pieces on this page were from my photos; I can show you further examples of my photography upon request.

Framing the above collage: $100. Highly recommended, as I used to work at a
framing shop and know what I'm doing. This option is for metal frames with
acid-free mats and backing only. The pieces in my studio are all framed this
way and it looks great. It's a little more than a framing shop would charge
but I think it's worth it to have delivered complete and ready to hang- in
other words, I make aesthetic decisions about framing and you don't have to
worry about it at all. Wood or special frames would be priced on an
individual basis.

Lastly, for an additional $100 I offer to do a high-resolution digital scan
of the above collage and upload it to CafePress, a Print-On-Demand service,
to put on cards, T-shirts, etc. I'll put the image on three products for the
above price. This makes a really cool "add-on" gift- imagine giving an
original collage with corresponding postcard, poster, and T-shirt. I put the
images and products up on CafePress and you (or anyone else) can buy the
products. Have a look at the photocopy collage products I've already put up:

All in all, a neat package. So pick any combination of these options:
  • $200 if you want me to do the photography,
  • $200 for the photocopy collage.
  • Add an additional $100 if you want framing,
  • and an additional $100 if you like the CafePress products.
